In January of 1934, Wiley Mossy, Sr. opened Mossy Motors on Rampart Street in New Orleans. After selling Buicks since 1921, Mr. Mossy secured an Oldsmobile franchise and became the third new car dealership in the city of New Orleans.
Mossy Motors gained a reputation of offering quality products, fair prices and outstanding consumer services. These principles have guided the business for over 70 years, and earned awards such as Time Magazine’s “Dealer of The Year”, and Oldsmobile’s “Elite Dealer” more times than any dealer in Louisiana.
In 1971 the Mossy name moved to Houston with the purchase of an Oldsmobile dealership, which later added Nissan. The family expanded in 1982 with the first dealership purchased in San Diego. Now, Mossy has six Nissan stores, one Ford, one Chevrolet, and one Toyota dealership in the San Diego area.
On March 1, 2005, the Mossy name joined the Mississippi Gulf Coast area with a dealership in Picayune, Mississippi.. Now there are twelve dealerships following the legacy of Wiley L. Mossy. Mossy of Picayune is the only G. M. Superstore offering Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC within fifty miles of downtown New Orleans. The ownership of Mossy of Picayune has over one hundred years of automotive experience. After a 32 year career at Mossy Motors in New Orleans, Roger Bacon, Jr. was appointed the Dealer Operator. Mr. Bacon’s partners include Michael Mossy Christovich, Don Riddle and Vincent Sclafani. Mr. Sclafani brings over 44 years of automotive experience to the new dealership.
Mossy of Picayune is committed to serving all of the automotive needs of the entire region in a pleasant, customer friendly environment. Plans are underway for a major renovation of the existing facilities. Substantial equipment upgrades have been made to better service our customers, and Saturday parts and service hours began on April 2, 2005.
